Tony, I would not try to defend the Restoration price part of the program. As you know this is just an added little bonus. THIS PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED FOR
ORIGINAL REDLINES. LETS NOT GET CAUGHT UP ON RESTORE PRICES. TONY COULD VERY EASILY TAKE THE RESTORE PART OUT IT IT JUST DON'T WORK. Tony you need to get
the download fixed.

Thanks for the clarification Jon - I was under the understanding that this was going to be a separate stand alone program in addition to the one already geared
to the original redlines. An evaluation program for originals would most likely be beneficial to a lot of folks
As for the restoration side of it .... well - I'll avoid another novel on the negatives of that and just say stick to the knowns and givens and leave the gray areas alone. Mark.

Mark..... wasn't there at one time a "Diecast grading service" available on ebay a few years ago that "gauranteed" their pricing to be
accurate? I remeber seeing them online, but they suddenly vanished.

To everyone,
1320 Addict, the service is not called www.diecastgrader.com and it is not what my program does. My program does
not run a service like that. That service is thriving well and I am suprise the amount or money people pay for that. My program puts the grading in the hands
of a user and requires the user to answer all the questions an experienced redline buyer would ask.

I would like to give my brutal honest opinion.
One! Spell check! Besides a few misspelled words, if you want your program looking professional, spell all the words correctly. Two! I took my best Hot Wheels, the Heavyweights Ambulance, and evaluated two ways. The first way is just how it looks. The program evaluated it at $40 with a condition scale of Excellent. I then reset. I evaluated it 'restored' with new wheels, glass and decals. It evaluated it at $18 with a condition scale of Fine. I don't agree. That means I spent more money in reproduction parts than the thing is worth! I did screen shots of every step, in the first evaluation, if anyone would like to see what the program looks like, I can post photos. I am also checking the validity of the of the install log and what files were installed. Your Certificate is valid and so far I can not find any questionable files that were installed. Don't take anything I done personally, there is way to much malicious behavior that goes around on the WWW, I like to be sure you are not putting something into your .exe that installs on my computer which would enable you to hack into computers. Three! My evaluation of your product: I think it can be plausable but I think the calculations need to be reworked. Access is okay for calculating figures but not for what you want to do. If you want your program to evaluate more realistically, you need to use Excel. Better yet! Java or PHP coded to figure in calculations from every aspect.

Thank you so much, for your evaluation. I love brutal honesty.
Just so everyone knows Dave Espino (Creator of RedlinesOnline.com) evaluated the first BETA and made suggestions I have incorporated into this BETA version.
He is now evaluating this version and I will post his honest evaluation of my program here.

Fourth of July weekend; lots to do this weekend yet, sorry for waiting a few days on getting back to your post. I like that there is a 60 day trial period.
Anything more than 30 days is very generous. No, I'm not a real Major, Major is just my nickname. DIACAP, Department of Defense Information Assurance
Certification and Accreditation Process, a process to ensure that risk management is applied on information systems. But what does that have to do with Price
Redline?
VB.net, I just got done with a class in VB in the spring semester. Not bad to use, but I hate coding. Where did it not calculate correctly? Let me quote from you It was not my intention to calculate all of the restoration parts you put into the car What is the program good for then? If it is not going to calculate a restored diecast Hot Wheels, then it's useless. It did not calculate correctly. In fact, it gave me a value that I spent more money buying resto parts than the Ambulance is worth according to this program. (When I hypothetically restored my Heavyweights Ambulance with new wheels, axles, paint, a windshield and decal) This program is poorly written. And I'm being brutally honest! To write in the restore parts and not figure in calculations, it's crap. I did like the eBay part of the program. That's not bad. Nice idea really! So far, you don't have me sold on this. If I were to write this out in VB.net, it would have a different layout. The layout of Price redline is 1/10th confusing at first but in about a 30 seconds, I seen how to make selections. This layout is fine, I'm just stating that each coder/programmer has their own style. Price Redline valued my Ambulance at a lesser value after restoration than keeping it origional. I can buy a book for 10 bucks, or make reference on the WWW. The price changed on one fact, 'origional' or 'restored'. Let me summarize: If Price Redline is going to be successful, you need to add in calculations of the restoration parts. Add a 'check mark' instead of a written text to calculate the base cost of a restored Red Line. Thats going to concur more coding and some homework on your part. One member stated 'mind numbing'. I believe this has a direction that can be very possible and not as mind numbing as one may think. It's still the holiday weekend for me and sometime next week, I'll drop some code in here and give you an example or my idea/take on this. Major

Not to throw bubblegum into this well oiled thread, um... Let me just throw some things out here... ha
Shedeck, if you aren't defending the restoration price part of the program, what are you defending? It has been sounding to me like this program isn't based on or around restorations at all, it's more of a price guide. Major. How many times have you seen a 1/1 car for sale, $75,000 spent to restore, for sale for $35,000? Putting a $300 wiring harness in your car doesn't make the value rise $300. By the same token, how can you put a value on the parts you use to restore? If I make the parts myself and it costs me nothing and you spend $100 on parts, yet the parts all look the same, how can you put a value on them? If another guy spends $20 on the same parts from someone else and the parts look like bits and parts that have been run over by a steam roller, why should they raise the value as much as the parts you spend $100 for? I think I see some of these things differently than many of you. To me, if it looks right, it's fine. I'm not going to test the metal or carbon date anything to see if it is original or not. I restore for me. I do what I like and I buy what I like. I'm not in it for the value. Of course, I would want what I have to be considered as valuable as possible. If it is restored to look just like an original, it's just as valuable to someone like me. Driven, if this isn't something about pricing restorations, this might not be the best place to try to kick it off. I thought the idea was kind of cool. I've sold an aweful lot of these little guys on ebay. I've never had a clue as to value. I always have placed value by supply and demand. If I put it on ebay and it sells for $50, then it's worth $50. I've been suprised many times. Just because I put a car in my store with a price tag of $1000 doesn't mean it's worth that much, just like when it says in a book the value is a certain amount I know that's only a ballpark figure. As far as your program, well, maybe you can help me. I'm really anxious to try this thing, just for the fun of it. I'm not really looking forward to answering 41 questions just to find out that my new in the package car really is considered mint, but just the same... ha I tried to download and had to sign up. Ok. I tried. The screen wouldn't go away. The ninth time it finally mentioned the user name was used. Ok. I figure I signed up and it didn't send me to the welcome page like it said. No problem. I went back and eventually found the welcome page. I found the download and downloaded it. 18 minutes to download? Wow. It must be good. Then I found that I still had to "open" or install it. Ok. Estimated time 58 minutes? 58 minutes? It ran faster, a little and at 38 minutes to go my computer locked up. I had to reboot. When it came back up it told me the file system was ntsf and that it was dirty, but didn't find anything wrong. Someone has since told me this means my computer hard drive may crash soon, nothing really to do with the program. Ok. I got in and opened again and tried to install. 14 minutes to go and I went down again... Now I can't find the download anyplace on this computer... You seem to know something about computers. I write programs in lotus and things like that, but this all has me baffled. I really would like to get what I think this program might be. Any suggestions what I'm doing/did wrong? Anyone else mentioned any of these things? Sounds like major was able to get it in with no problem, so there must not be a problem except on this end... ha I don't think restores are worthless and I can't believe anyone would think they are. Just like 1/1 I would much rather have that cool street rod with the fiberglass hood than the rusted hulk sitting out in the field. Just my two cents worth. Greg.

Brutal Honesty is always helpfull | #24
|
bob29579,
First, I want to thank you for stepping out and trying my program, any input will be helpfull. I do have a solution to the restoration problem that will work either way for what others are suggesting, and hope to have it available by the end of this weekend or by Monday. I know I can't please everyone but I assure you I am going to try. Major was a big help in helping me realize the parts issue. I plan to ask the parts cost and add it to the restoration value and also asked what restoration process were performed and at what cost, I believe this will solve the issue. Both restoration parts cost and restoration process performed can be posted in the Auction Description so when someone plans to purchase your restoration they can trully see everything that was done to bring that restored jewel to market. I have had 52 people download my program since I announced it two weeks ago. I am talking to people who seen my announcement from two other forums besides this one. I am not sure what may be wrong and why it is not loading correctly. The install program is a program called "Wise" installation program where I have written script to correctly install the program. I know it won't work with Vista as of yet, do you have Vista? I just checked my bugbase and no one has reported any bugs lately. The first day it was out it had 3 bugs and I fixed those and put the corrected copy of my program back into the install. Hmmm, I don't know what is going on as of now. Are you up to date with all of your updates from microsoft? Are you up to date with your virus program or Microsoft Defender? Make sure you have done all that and then reinstall and let me know. Report all things happening and maybe I can guide you to a good install. Also, if you care to do this, open the case to your computer and reseat all of your computer cards and memory. If you have any spyware it could cause a problem like this. You might want to consider running a program that can detect most grayware, spyware and viruses by Trend Micro called house call http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ it will tell you if you have any spyware on your system and help you eliminate and it is free, don't be fooled by the screen that askes you to purchase Trend Micro virus checker, just click on the results tab to see the progress. It will download a little java program that will check all of your system including memory and your files. I assure you it is safe. I hope it is not my program but if it is I promise you I will get down to the problem. If you want I could look at what processes are running in Task Manager and determine if any processes that may be spyware. Please keep me informed, I will work with you to the end to solve this problem for you. Just PM me. I plan to stick with this until the end and I know I will get there with everyone's help, so keep the brutal honesty comming, because isn't that why a BETA TEST is conducted. Tony... |

I still have yet to successfully download the program for perusal, but I have witnessed this program in action for an ebay sale. I can see where this program could have great benefits for the sale of original cars to either the new or intermediate buyer. However, the process of filling out the pertinent information still lies solely with the seller and how honestly they make their own level of grading. The particular auction I witnessed that had used this program in their ad said the following ....

Guilty of buying restored | #26
|
I am really getting into this now. And I am quite guilty. Bought 1 Heavy Chevy and 3 Boss Hoss's restored for a very reasonable price. And they are
absolutely perfect. I think better than new. Beautiful, and how much work and sweat someone put into it. For the price of wheels, possibly glass, decals,
paint and the work put into these things, it is easier and cheaper to buy them than do it yourself. That is a bad thing to say. It is a hobby that you all
treasure, and the work I have seen in pictures is great. I don't have that talent. I guess what I am trying to say is I feel you can't really make
much money from your efforts and that is probably not what most of you are after. I think you all enjoy the end result of your endevours. There are always
people like me who will buy these things . It is a hobby for many of you, and very rewarding just from the end results of your product. I can't see
making any money trying to sell your works at this time. However, I will pay for it as many people will. Now, will push these wheels on this fleetside. I
think it will work.. It did. First time in 40 years it has wheels again. And it rolls too. Thanks for all your help guys. Just my 2 cents.

i might as well say something too,i restore RL's not for getting money out of them but for my own enjoyment(like many others)
and i dont really care how much goes in to parts, because what amount i spend for parts won't buy me a mint one (and i cant afford mint ones!) i get my enjoyment from watching how a total beater(often cars that people are ready to throw away)turned out to be a real gem again!! not by nowing how much it is worth after the restoration i'm sorry for spelling faults!!(heck,i live on the other side of the planet,i know you guys wont blame me!! |

I WANT EVERYONE TO HAVE THIS PROGRAM, IF YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM DOWNLOADING LET ME KNOW THE FOLLOWING! | #28

Mark,
I want you to be able to download. PM or email me with a screendump or give me the variable data you put into my program so I may determine what the problem might be. I did find if someone started their email name with numbers instead of letters it will not register, and now that is fixed. If you want the program you must allow me to fix the registration part for you and that means I need to see what you are entering for the registration. Tony... |

Ok. It took 3 hours to redownload it and install. I find the questions aren't hard to answer at all, in fact it's nothing like I expected at all.
Pretty cool in fact. I have not checked a "price guide" for these in many years, in fact since the hot wheels guide first came out some (How many)
years ago. Some things I would like to see added to the program... I would like to be able to page right and left, not just one car at a time. One click brings
up 3 new cars. I like the way the questions stay answered each time and you don't have to go through it each time. I would like to see it expanded, non
redlines included as well, though I can see that might be a major undertaking. I would like to see more definition about restorations. Just because I call a
repaint a spectraflame orange, doesn't really mean it is. Just because I repaint it and it no longer has chips, doesn't really mean it looks minty. I
understand that kind of thing will be next to impossible to define and even explain. The original part you have so far is really cool, especially to me who had
no clue what I have accumulated through the years. Now I'll really have to think about stripping a camaro or mustang just because it has a couple of minor
chips and repainting them... Greg.
